I put to use my experience as an English as a Second Language Teacher in creating practical worksheets, quizzes, games and videos that can be put to good use by teachers, parents and learners.

Teachers and parents can use this game to help children practise (BrE) / practice (AmE) their vocabulary for the Cambridge English Exams (Pre-A1 Starters).

The game uses many words from the Starters word list (for exams from 2018) and is structured thematically so that children can learn the words easily.

Classroom practice:

The class can be divided into 2 teams. The teams take turns trying to match the pairs. Each team can have 1 team captain or the team captain can be a different student each turn. The team captains should consult the other group members before selecting pairs. Both teams have to match all pairs in under 36 attempts. The team with the most points wins.

The words and pictures are reshuffled so the students can repeat the same category as many times as they want.

Independent practice:

The game is ideal for children to practise (BrE) / practice (AmE) the Starters word list (for exams from 2018) because they can work on their own and at their own pace.

The game is divided in three levels.

Level 1:

The children have 36 attempts to match all pairs. If they can't do it in under 36 attempts, the game ends.

Level 2:

The children have 28 attempts to match all pairs. If they can't do it in under 28 attempts, the game ends.

Level 3:

The children have 22 attempts to match all pairs. If they can't do it in under 22 attempts, the game ends.

The words and pictures are reshuffled so the children can repeat the same category as many times as they want.

After they choose an answer, they can see if they got it right or wrong and at the end of each category they can see their score.

Classroom practice:

The students can form a line in front of the computer and take turns clicking on the correct answers. To make it more interesting, the teacher should set a limit on how many mistakes they can make as a class. If they make more mistakes than the teacher had told them, the teacher wins. If they make less mistakes than the teacher had told them, the students win.

Other ways to use the game in the classroom:

The students take turns providing answers individually from their seats, or they can be divided into groups. The groups can take turns providing answers and the teacher can award points for each group on the board. Each team can have 1 team captain or the team captain can be a different student for each question. The team captains should consult the other group members' before providing an answer.

After all the categories have been completed, the students will get a rating on how well they did:

560 / 560 = 5 stars.
500-559 / 560 = 4 and a half stars.
450-499 / 560 = 4 stars.
400-449 / 560 = 3 stars.
350-399 / 560 = 2 stars.
300-349 / 560 = 1 star.
1-299 / 560 = half star.

Teachers can use this word game as a warm-up activity or as a short break during the lesson.

* The class can be divided in up to three teams.
* The teams take turns asking the teacher to reveal letters.
* The team captain (or each student in a team) tells the teacher if they want to reveal a consonant (con.) or a vowel (vow.).
* After all 10 letters are revealed, all teams are given 30 seconds to form the longest word they can using the letters that have just been revealed.
* The teacher then writes down each team's word in the allocated space in the game.
* The team(s) with the longest word(s) get(s) 1 point. The team(s) that got a nine-letter word get(s) 2 points. The team(s) that got a ten-letter word get(s) 3 points. (The teacher can add the points for each team manually.)

* There are links to an online Dictionary (to check if the words the teams gave exist) and an Anagrams website (to show the longest word possible if needed).

** This game is recommended to be used by mature students because some rude words may be revealed.
