There are numerous advanced GDevelop concepts in this project, such as finite state machines (FSMs), tweens, bitmap fonts and bitmap text objects, tilemaps, external event sheets, declaring variables via events, and object variables.

Before working with this project, it is STRONGLY recommended that you review the following:

At least the first four tutorials on the GDevelop Wiki: http://wiki.compilgames.net/doku.php/gdevelop5/tutorials This example uses concepts from EACH of those tutorials and it is important to understand those concepts before trying to adapt these ideas.

The finite state machine tutorial at: http://wiki.compilgames.net/doku.php/gdevelop5/tutorials/finite_state_machine

Not a vania

This project is meant as a game example or template for a more advanced platformer. This is in the style of older castlevania entries, such as Castlevania 1 or 3.

Room based camera movement

Demonstrates how to use the "Room based camera movement" extension for a top down action adventure/action RPG style camera.

It allows for following the player within the boundaries of a single room, and then smoothly slides the camera to the next room after the player enters it.

It also freezes the player's controls and enemies while the room transition is occurring.

HasSimpleClicked

DoubleClick

Detect double-click (mouse) or double-tap (touch) on objects or anywhere.

This behavior provides a condition to check if the object is located within the visible portion of its layer's camera. The condition also allows for specifying padding to the virtual screen border.
Note that object visibility, such as being hidden or 0 opacity, is not considered (but you can use those existing conditions in addition to this behavior).

Checks if an object position is within the viewport of its layer.

IsOnScreen

InOnScreen

Condition to check if an object is visible in its layer's camera viewport.

Move and zoom camera to the room object that contains the trigger object (usually the player).

MoveCameraToActiveRoom

Check if trigger object (usually the player) has entered a new room on this frame.

ActiveRoomChanged

Check if camera is zooming (requires the use of "Move and zoom camera" action in this extension).

IsCameraZooming

Check if camera is moving (requires the use of "Move and zoom camera" action in this extension).

IsCameraMoving

RoomBasedCameraMovement

Move/zoom camera to frame the room object containing the player.

AudioByName
